Having a stroller does more than just take your baby from point A to point B. There are definitely more benefits than you thought.

  • Soothing for your baby: Whether you’re going for a fast paced walk or a jog, the rocking of your stroller is extremely soothing for babies and is perfect if you’re needing a way to getting your baby to sleep.
  • Safe: Strollers overall, provide your baby with a safe environment with a secure frame, safety harness and a sunshade. You also have breaks on your stroller which is always absolutely essential for your baby’s safety.
  • You can carry your things: Strollers are great because they also provide you with enough storage so you can comfortably keep your valuables, diaper bag, bottles, toys and snacks in the storage unit. This will come in handy when you’re working out.
  • Easier for you: Have you ever went jogging while carrying a baby? It’s not fun. Strollers help relieve the extra work of carrying your baby. Plus, you’ll be able to focus on your workout as opposed to worrying about your baby.
  • Adds to your workout: Not only are you jogging or speed walking but you’re also pushing a stroller and they aren’t the lightest machines. It definitely adds extra oomph to your workout.

Now that you know the benefits of having a stroller, why do you specifically need a jogging stroller?

You may be thinking that you’ll be able to use any type of stroller for hiking or jogging, however, that’s not the case. Jogging strollers are specifically designed for those parents who will be partaking in outdoor activities. The large tires and air-filled and shock absorbent, giving you a smooth ride with minimal bumps. They’re heavier than your standard sized stroller, weighing anywhere from 23 to 31 lbs.

Features to consider

When you’re looking at jogging strollers, there are some key factors you’ll need to think about before purchasing one.

Wheel size

If you thought all strollers come with the same standard wheels, you’re wrong. In fact, the wheels are extremely important when looking for a stroller. Rule of thumb is, the larger the wheels, the smoother the ride. Wheels usually come in three sizes: 12, 16, and 20+ inches. Think about your level of physical activity and what you’ll be using it mostly for.

  • 12 inches: these wheels are ideal if you’ll be walking on smooth terrains such as sidewalks, indoor paths and bike paths.
  • 16 inches: they’re ideal if you’ll be using this stroller for mostly outdoor use. You can do light off-roading for example, on grass, but it’s mostly for fairly smooth outdoor surfaces.
  • 20 inches: if you’re a long-distance runner or will be using this stroller for off-road purposes then you should opt for wheels that are 20 inches or greater.

You want to make sure that your jogging stroller comes with a canopy. If your baby isn’t pleased with the sunshine or gusty winds, you’re going to have a short workout.

A large canopy that’s adjustable is what you should be looking for.

Reclining seats

Even as adults, we love reclining seats.

Look for padded seating, it gives your baby extra comfortable during your outing and they’ll love it during naptime.

Arm leash/wrist tether

Almost all strollers come with this feature. Because it’s a jogging stroller, it has the ability to go pretty fast, so this is an extra safety feature. You simply loop it around your wrist and the other end attaches to the stroller. If you trip or lose your grip, your stroller won’t run away.

If you’re going to be running or going off-road, you’ll need to make sure your stroller comes with suspension. If not, your baby is going to literally feel every bump that you roll over. If you don’t have this feature, it’s going to be a headache for you.

Adjustable handlebars

We’re not all built the same size. If you’re going to be jogging, you want to be comfortable.

So, if you’re a little taller or shorter than the average, opt for a stroller with this feature.Make sure you take the stroller for a test walk around the store, making sure your arms aren’t cramping.

Alloy or steel

You want to opt for alloy wheels and hubs as opposed to steel. Though steel is cheaper, it’s heavier, which is something you don’t want in a jogging stroller. It also has a tendency to rust, so, if you choose steel, you’ll have to rinse your wheels and hubs to prevent rusting during the winter months.

If you’re really focused on reducing weight, then you want to opt for an aluminum frame. It’s more expensive, however, it’s lightweight in comparison to other materials.

Now that you know everything there is to know about jogging strollers, it’s time we should you the top eight strollers available on the market.
