The best keychain multi tool is an item that will vary for one person to another.  Your preferences play a huge role in choosing the ideal multitool. Since most of the units are amazingly affordable, price is hardly an issue when it comes time to shop. Instead, the issue one faces is in determining how they plan to use the multitool over the long term.

In understanding how you will use the tool, it becomes possible to define the acceptable features of the tool that serve you the best. Thus, there are some considerations that go into buying a tool, and if you are buying a tool for another individual, you will need to consider the preferences of the individual you are getting the tool for as well.

Unique Designs

Keychain multitools are made in myriad configurations. The primary tools you can expect are knives and sometimes pliers. Some tools come equipped with not just one, but several screwdrivers in flathead and Philips styles and you can get units featuring hex wrenches. The latter are typical tools.

Unique design

The less typical features you will find include things like rulers, special wire cutters and crimpers, or scissors. Belt cutters are found on special tools, as are other emergency tools. You will have an opportunity to compare brands and the diversity in style. It is extremely easy to personalize your purchase if you take the time to compare the features of each tool available.

Anticipating The Use of The Multitool

Part of choosing the right multitool involves planning ahead and determining how the multitool will best serve you or the person you are buying the tool for when you shop. There are unique multitools for just about every purpose. Some tools suit workers while others might prove best if used outdoors in the wild. Still others are made for specific trades and situations. Consider some of the following designs below:

Do-it-yourselfer and fast repairs: For those who like a tool that can prove handy when it comes time for minor repairs and for craft projects, opt for the multitool featuring scissors, different size rulers for fast measurements, screwdrivers, and Allen wrenches. A knife blade might also prove convenient for cutting thick materials, thread, yarn, and rope.

DIY repairs

Office worker and on the job use:  Need a tool for opening envelopes, parcels, and to get through that thick tape on office boxes filled with supplies? Opt for a multitool that clips readily to your belt for ease of access.

Get a tool with a sharp blade, box opener, and scissors. A few tools might prove handy on the job too, depending on the type of work you do. You can easily get a multitool featuring a wire stripper, cutter, and crimper, which is great if you work as an electrician or construction worker.

Hunting, Fishing, and Outdoor use: If you are an outdoor enthusiast, go for tools that have corrosion resistant properties. You can get a tool that features a titanium coating so you can rest assured in knowing you have a durable tool in your hands.

Your tool will serve you well if it comes with a bottle opener or a can opener, and a few tools on hand might prove exceptional in the wilderness. You will definitely benefit from a durable blade for potential hunting, fishing, and food prep.

Multitool outdoor use

Emergency use: If you are an Emergency Technician or someone that deals with emergency situations, there are convenient multitools featuring sharp seatbelt cutters so you can free a victim from a vehicle if necessary. You can also get a tool that has an Oxygen tank opener incorporated into the many tools the unit offers.

Simple conveniences:  If you are looking for a multitool that provides you with myriad conveniences like a nail file, nail cleaner, rulers, scissors, a key ring holder, and other perks, there are plenty of models available at super affordable prices.

Construction

When you are ready to spend your money on a multitool, make sure you consider its construction. Is it easy to open? Does the unit have ergonomic features? What about special safety features? Can you clip it to your waste or do you have to carry it in your pocket. The design of the tool and how it handles are just as important as the tools it carries.

Multitools in the hand

Also, consider the kind of metal that is used in making the multitool. Stainless steel and titanium are common metals, both of which are durable, long lasting, and resistant to corrosion. Some units featuring aluminum handles too and this lends to the lighter weight of the tool in question.

Ultimately, it is great if you can get a unit that has been thoroughly tested for its quality and durability before you make an investment.

I have been SEARCHING for the right multi-tool for my car keys and finally found The Gerber Curve Pocket Multi-Tool . Why I like this is there’s no bulk to it, it’s about an inch long and weighs nothing. It’s small, light weight and has the right tools I need. Blade is sharp, caribiner clip is a tight spring initially. No pliers, but from what I’ve read most small tools with small pliers are garbage. But so far so good with the Gerber.

  • Daniel Carraway

Glad you like the Gerber Curve Pocket Multi-Tool. It’s an excellent tool to carry around anywhere. I still have my Victorinox Swiss Army Cadet Knife with me which I had for ages. It has seen me through some tough adventures and very reliable, if I must say so.

  • Carl Thompson

The Gerber Dime Multi-Tool is a great multi-tool. This little guy had all the tools I wanted in a nice small package perfect for EDC on my keychain. I was surprised by the quality. Pliers work great and the tip is kind of sharp and meets up perfectly. The spring action is great. For pliers of their size they work great. Fixed exterior bottle opener is also excellent. It’s nice and wide and you never have to use it twice. I’ve always hated the fold-out bottle openers because they take too long to deploy when you got a cold one in your hands and your thirsty ;). Overall still a great little tool to have on the keychain, when I need a tool in a pinch.

  • Daniel Carraway

This small gem is also affordable and you’ll be surprised that those small pieces do work. The sleek, stylish design makes this a crowd-favorite and quite handy for everyday use or when you’re going camping.
I also like the retail package opener! It’s such an excellent tool to use.
