Nothing is worse than being out in the sun, walking around with the family, doing activities, having fun, and wanting to head home because your feet hurt.  It can put a damper on any day, and can ruin the rest of a week.

If you’re not wearing comfortable sandals, it can cause blisters and all kinds of other painful things, which will bother you for an extended period, and no one wants that. Some people use flip flops, which are the best sandals for the beach, because they slip on and off very easily.

Other people prefer croc style sandals because they prefer the closed toe comfort to protect their feet, along with the style. We have compiled a collection of the best comfortable sandals that can be found here, to make your life easier.

How to Find The Right Sandals

Not all sandals are made the same, so it’s important to know what you should look out for when you want to invest in the best sandals.

Sandals features

There are some important features to keep in mind while you’re on your search:

  • Activity: not all sandals are constructed the same; you wouldn’t wear a pair of sandals to go hiking, so it’s important that you know where you’re going to be wearing them and what you’re going to be doing. Here are some tips on finding sandals to fit your chosen activity:
    • Hiking: should have rugged outsoles and stiffer midsoles, straps that can be cinched around the foot, and sturdy toe boxes for added protection. Their main goal is to provide stability and protection on uneven terrain.
    • Fashion: forget looking for protection or support, these sandals are designed to look good. They’r more suited for dressed summer occasions.
    • Closed toe: provides protection again debris and surrounding obstacles; can be good for hiking and walking around the city.
    • Flip flops: thin rubber soles with a V-shaped strap that fits between the toes; there is no support so they’re best for use around the beach or a pool.
    • Water sandals: made of water-resistant material so they’re not weighed down, and are also very lightweight. Great for wearing during rafting or other water-related activities.
  • Fit: when trying on sandals, it’s important to know how they should fit. A lot of people tend to think that they should be loose, but sandals that are too big will slide around too much and can cause abrasions on the foot.
Instead, it should be wide enough to accommodate the width of the foot, and the foot should not hang over the front or back either. Straps should fit snuggly but not too tight.
  • Material Quality: the choice of material determines how long the shoe will last and the price that you’ll pay for them. If you’re looking for breathable shoes that won’t chafe, then you’ll want to look at sandals made of leather, suede, or fabric.
If you’re going to be engaging in water activities, then you’ll want to look at nylon webbing or polyurethane. For soles, look for memory foam, ethylene-vinyl acetate or rubber to provide a lot of cushioning.
  • Comfortable Straps: straps that aren’t made well or use cheap materials are going to cause blisters and irritation, so look for those that are made of soft leather or suede to minimize these. Also be on the lookout for seams in the straps that can further cause irritation.
  • Arch support: sandals aren’t really made to be worn for long ventures, but for avid hikers, they’re going to want to look at sandals that provide quality arch support. Without this, you can experience a lot of fatigue, muscle cramps, and even back pain.
  • Flexibility: you’ll gain nothing from a rigid sandals that won’t work with you. Look for a sandal that allows you to flex the sole in the area where the ball of your foot would be to see how flexible it really is. If it’s too rigid, then cross it off your list.
  • Cushioning: many people don’t understand just how much pressure they put on their feet until they feel like they’re on fire after a good long walk. Having cushioning throughout the sole of the shoe will help to minimize the pain and damage to your heel.

Now that you’re aware of what you should be looking for, here are some of the top rated sandals in the market.

Merrell Enoki sandals are wonderful for ladies with narrow feet, and they fit exactly as I expected. The four adjustable straps offer a secure, snug fit. I ordered the Enoki’s particularly for wet activities, and they have been great for that purpose, lots of grip and no slipping when wet. Everything is great, only one bad thing – zero arch support.

  • Jerry Mueller

The Merrel Enoki offers great traction and most of my friends swear that it offers that best cushion and support for their feet. Although not all feet are created equal, though so you might want to try another brand – the Birkenstock is a good option.

  • Lee Williamson

Bought a pair of Teva Terra sandals for my Dad as he already used to own a pair until he misplaced them. He really loves how comfortable they are and reckons that, as long as he doesn’t lose them again, they’ll last a good few years. I’ve tried them on myself and they seem to offer a lot of support for the sole of the foot. I can attest to them being comfortable too, though I could never wear them myself. They’re not the most stylish footwear, as sandals seldom seem to be!

  • Jerry Mueller

I love the Teva Terra! It may seemed a bit unstylish but then, such comfort! It’s an excellent footwear and the traction is also awesome. I wear them for errands, when I work around the yard…almost everywhere. Great price for a stellar sandal!
